A general point: Renaming files (ie, changing the extension) will not work. Since Office 2007, PowerPoint and the other Office programs check the file contents to see if they match the extension. If not, they refuse to open the file or report that it's corrupted.PowerPoint stopped opening *really* old files quite some time ago because they were security threats. But, at least in Windows, that meant files dating back to Office 95 or so ... as in 1995. It will still open younger PPT format files. Whether that's true of Mac PowerPoint, I don't know, but if you have a colleague with Windows PPT, you might ask them to see if they can open the file, then File | Save As and choose to save as a PPTX.There are sites that will do conversions. If you're not restricted from sending files to them, you could try zamzar.com Several people have reported that it's able to convert older PPT files to PPTX that new versions of PPT can open.
