A very small size.Vidcoder is similar to Handbrake.I find that XMedia Recode is much faster after the latest version upgrade.PS - I found converting movies with the Adaptive DCT, and 8x8 Tranform settings enabled led to incompatablity issues with my Tevion HD Media player and Soniq Blu-ray player. Files would not play.Don't notice any difference in quality with these switched off. Banned your search should start and end with media coder, easily the best free video app, bar none. it even eclipses most commercial apps.since version rc3 5050 it even supports the intel media encoder, for both h264 and mpeg-2, in hardware and software. Member hello all, have changed files to mpeg 2 using avstodvd, or i think i have?? what next do i need to do?? can anyone tell me would purchasing this program make it simpler for my old shrinking brain??? Thanks again for all your patience and help, gep Member If you're making a dvd and wanted a menu or not you should have outputted a dvd folder structure the first time with avstodvd. you would select it in the output mode. However all is not lost you will just use up more space. You can use avstodvd to make a dvd from your mpeg2 you just made. Just load it and tell it to make a dvd folder structure - you can make a menu if you want. It will be the size of your mpeg file more or less - on top of it since it has to use the mpeg file as the source. You can delete the mpeg file after you make the dvd folder if you want. Then use the free imgburn program to burn the dvd folder to a dvdr.Yes you can buy a program if you want but you will still have to learn it even if its a basic point and click wizard program. You have to know what you want out of the program. Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? PutterP Member Joined: Dec 27, 2010 Messages: 2 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 I've encoded a countless number of movies to DVD using AVStoDVD, but today I encountered an error I haven't seen before, and I'm not quite sure what the cause of it is.The encoding was all fine and dandy until MuxMan came into play to mux the video/audio streams (m2v & ac3). The MuxMan log is as follows:I'm not really sure whether it's referring to the bitrate for the video or the audio, so below is the info for both streams:Video:Audio:I'm almost positive that it can't be referring to the bitrate of the AC3 track because I've ALWAYS encoded my AC3 track 448kbps...95% of which were 5.1ch just as this one. If it's referring to the bitrate of the video track, is there anyway that I can fix this issue?I usually let AVStoDVD setup the title setting automatically (as I've done with this title as well), and the video settings in AVStoDVD are as follows:If anyone could help me out with this problem, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Last edited: Dec 27, 2010 PutterP Member Joined: Dec 27, 2010 Messages: 2 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 Nevermind on this one guys....I did some checking into it, and found that there was a write error on my hard disk during the encoding process for the video track. I started a new re-encode with the same settings, and it came out just fine. Share This Page

If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? Member Use avstodvd in batch mode, save to VOB folder or iso, and do it when you're not doing something else on the computer. Like overnight. I've done this many times.Realize that if you want high quality encoding you need 2 pass. All those purveyors of crappy adware / cheap DVD authors tell you that they'll give you top quality, now. Don't believe it.For a good explanation of why, see the Handbrake docs on their site. It's not a DVD author but it's one of the best converters out there, and has better documentation than many paid programs. If you want faster conversion and are willing to accept less quality, I'm afraid the only answer I can give is to get a much faster computer. Conversion / encoding has been around for a while. If there was a programming technique that really worked all that much faster they'd all be using it. Personally if I'm going to put something on a medium I can't rewrite on I want to maximize quality and I. There`s just no way I`m going to learn it`s scripted language to do what I want to do.Actually the main reason I use avstodvd is that it (or really avisynth, I suppose) will work with just about any file. Some of those codecs people use arwe pretty wonky. Sometimes avisynth wouldn`t frameserve the input and I converted it with avisynth, which is also a good converter. That almost always worked. Member quick & easy results, I've not seen anything faster. Quality of results varies quite a bit though, but it can be decent or even good. Originally Posted by orsetto Not necessarily. Its never the same format twice, could be any mix of straight-up AVI, DiVX, MKV, FLV, or MP4. I'd say about a third of these files are so imcompetently encoded that they fail to play on either Mac or PC media players, I can't even watch them until they're converted to DVD using an all-in-one product like DVDflick or AVStoDVD. Over the last few years converting hundreds of these video files, I see no middle ground: they are either HiDef or near-HD pristine, or they're macroblock city. Using DVDflick in single pass, the good files result in DVDs that rival my off-air HDTV reception: crystal clear, I can't see any factor that would be improved by multipass DVD conversion. The same happens with the crummy files: they wouldn't look any less crummy if a ran them thru 16 passes. For someone with a relatively high volume of videos to process, the overnight routine gets real frustrating real fast for very little boost in perceived quality. I think we're fishing off rather similar waters, with a couple exceptions. My lines are trying to bring in mostly rare or little-known movies -- the majority of them foreign and not all that recent --.
